26-th June - 1th July 2022 near the Trakai and Semeliškės, Lithuania.
Workshop "Cob techniques - hand sculpted cob cottage"
During a week we will learn all basic aspects of cob clay-building. Cob is a method for building walls, floors and even furniture with minimal tools and natural materials. Cob is a mix of clay, sand and straw. Typically cob is mixed with feet. We will use our legs and hands to mix different cob mixes. During the summer is useful to mix with barefoot. It is also possible to prepare cob mixes with big machines or drill-mixers.
There will be theory sessions and mostly a lot of practical hands on work:) The owner has prepared the rounded shape foundation and roof. The cottage will be like egg shape. Here is draw about the cottage roof and foundation. We will build cob walls and will sculpt rounded niches and arches, also some furniture.
Workshop Instructor Jaanus Viese has run natural building courses since 2004. Jaanus has much experience with cob, bale-cob, rocket stoves and heated massive benches. He has taught cob and cob stoves building in Finland, Lithuania, Estonia and Italy. Courses are practical with short theory sessions. Also it is very artistic, with cob we sculpt niches, arches, furniture. Last years Jaanus has worked a lot with clay and lime plasters. Jaanus has developed rocket stoves and cob ovens technically and he has made many experiments with cob mixes.
Jaanus experience shows that natural building is directly connected to our inner growing. It is one way to show others our soul beauty and discover how to use our awareness. During long workshops people start to create magical forms.
Jaanus is thankful that he has learned natural building from :
*Ianto and Linda Evans (cob, bale-cob and rocket stove)
*Bill and Athena Steen (plastering and clay floors)
*Frank Thomas (basic of straw-bale)
Jaanus has also academical background- He studied Environment science in Tallinn University and oven building at Tallinn Builders School.
Location: The workshop will take place in the countryside place, near Trakai and Semeliškės. 800m from building site is beautiful lake for swimming:).
